The greatest episode since Star Trek’s return to the small screen. Listen to The TrekCulture Podcast - Tuesdays on;Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1wr…
I loved Mariners line about the enterprise crew talking slowly. The difference in speed between the SNW and LD dialogue was something I noticed and this one line made it click for me. Fantastic
I think my favorite part about this episode is any amount of excessive silliness or criticism of being too fan-servicey is completely obliterated by the very next episode which deals with the trauma and horror of war head on. It didn’t feel like whiplash either, which I think speaks to the fact that even though episode 7 was silly there were still very serious emotional beats like Boimler convincing Pike to have a birthday party so he can hang out with the people that love him.
As someone that loves “Strange New Worlds” but has never checked out “Lower Decks” well, second star to the right and straight on til morning I guess (gonna start watching “LD”)
I was very skeptical about it at first, but then it turned out to have some great characters and thoughtful storylines on top of all the deep lore self-referential jokes.
I liked this episode, but I thought the opening Lower Decks bit was pretty unfunny. Is the actual show different? It felt like all of the characters were trying way too hard to be quirky and the jokes didn’t really land for me.
I have to admit, like Sean, this is probably my favorite episode of the New Trek Era. There’s been so much to unravel.
Riker!
Loved this episode. Best I’ve seen in years.
