I mean yea thats basically it. Anytime you tell someone that an issue in america is a solved problem in China, they just recite one of the hundreds of propaganda points they’ve been fed

So like, when people say we can’t increase wages because it will result in higher prices, are they also against investing in useless things like this because it will increase prices? I’ve heard people say the former alot, rarely have heard the latter.

I was thinking this would be an easy PR win for Trump to unban it, but now I’m not as sure. He probably has too many oligarchs in his ear that are dying to own a piece of tiktok or its market share that they would encourage him to ban it (assuming tiktok would not let themselves be owned by an American company).

I think ChatGPT is a good tool for studying, similar to how saying things aloud/writing things out is a good tool for studying because it forces you to think, except with ChatGPT you can have a back and forth. Verifying the output for truth also seems like a good exercise for learning (as long as you don’t use ChatGPT to verify itself)

The issue I see is you need to have some base of critical thinking skills and general knowledge to work from in order to get the most out of ChatGPT and I doubt most students are at that level. I don’t even consider myself at that level. I assume the worst and students are just taking the output and rewording it.

If we collectively agree ChatGPT is here to stay, then maybe we ought to teach how to use it in a productive way that doesn’t dumb us down. I know this isn’t a well-defined thing though but probably it would be worth researching. We live under capitalism though so the odds of that happening are probably next to none, but I’m thinking about what we should do if ChatGPT existed under a different system.

I’ve also made the mistake of taking the bait and debating these people, which in my experience never leads anywhere

Definitely have to be careful. What I try to focus on when I talk to people are just the facts, because those are neutral and indisputable. But if you ever talk to someone who knows they can’t argue against the facts, they’ll resort to straw man arguments where the conversation then turns to establishing definitions (e.g. What is socialism?)

Let’s go!

But yea this is just a drop in the bucket. Every person I talk to in America has this warped view of China. The propaganda here is quite effective, cause even people who call themselves apolitical or barely know anything can recite anti-china talking points

One the one hand it would be great to get libs to abandon the Democratic party. On the other hand these people have already demonstrated they can excuse a genocide. There’s maybe a small contingent that genuinely thought Biden couldn’t end it with a phone call and can be snapped out of their liberalism, but the rest feel like lost causes to me tbh
