I feel so bad for the long term contributors :/
The only good thing I could think off, is that someone is going to create a defederated stackoverflow alternative?
Or something similar, to bring back real human interaction…
If this wasn’t enough, This will probably raise war against corporated AI.
The armbian community is on another level of commitment. Installing a recent debian version on an old ARM Rockchip totally blew my mind… Those people need more recognition !
Just because of the loading bar? You’re easy to please 😁.
Nextcloud and syncthing a 2 different things. While synching keeps your files synchronized between your devices, nextcloud is a cloud platforme which gives you access to your files on your server. The difference is actually very important even though a lot would argue that they are the same.
It really depends what type of technology you want/need. I would recommended syncthing for it’s simplicity and robustness. It only does one thing but it does it very well !!
To give you an example, I have a syncthing sever which is a middleman for my Zotero database. Laptop <-> Server (syncthing) <-> desktop
. It’s very important to keep it in sync for the integrity of the zotero database !
This kind of workflow wouldn’t work with nextcloud or rather will most of the time corrupt my database.
Nextcloud works as a simple cloud platforme wich is also great (with it’s up and downs) but works only as a cloud platforme to keep your files on your server.
You could have saved hours by just using mkvpropedit writing a simple 3 line bash script that loops through your files.
Just saying 🤷🏼
I had a similar experience with a “wow the Linux community is beautiful” feeling after booting into Debian on an old rockchip CPU TV box !
Have a look at the armbian community. Those guys are on another level 😁.
Edit
To my surprise, I even discovered that you can boot Armbian on these inexpensive boxes and use them as a lightweight desktop
Oupsi ! It’s late here so I didn’t read till the end ! Sorry about that 😅
While I’m not able to give it a try right now (just woke up, need to get ready for work…) I just wanna thank you for sharing your work and contributing to the community !!
It looks neat and simple :) !!!
Interesting and fun read, thank you !
In the beginning, the earth was without form, and void. Wait, a bit too far behind.
😁
