If indie devs really have that preference, then they need to remove the DRM/Vendor-locking stuff in their games, unfortunately. If your game relies on eg. Steam for the multiplayer or workshop mods, then people are going to prefer resellers.

Had a very similar experience. I’ve frequently found that kind of problem is a direct result of the community simply growing ‘too large’. The only way to moderate is hit everyone even slightly suspected of being out of line with a brick.

Back in ye olden days of forums and boards, even flagrant transgression of rules were typically forgiven and you were dealt with like a human because moderators had time and care for the community and people.

And interestingly, there’s little defederating going the other way. Honestly the only real criticism I see is that libs don’t like that they can’t regurgitate anti-China made up nonsense without being corrected.

I wouldn’t even mind extending the war so much if there was any attempt to have some good faith peace negotiations to at least entertain a chance at peace??? Russia has always been up for peace talks, Ukraine/the West has not. In fact I am still often shouted down if I so much as say that all sides should be discussing the possibility of peace.

I agree Russia bad and should not be doing an awful invasion, but there is also a much wider context to their invasion that involves Ukraine refusing to give its eastern regions a vote on their own future and bombing civilians for 8 years. This war was very far from inevitable, even without giving Russia any major concessions.

That’s my point. You need those Steam keys to get the full experience. If you pirate it, you don’t get it. Therefore for some games, resellers > piracy.

Plenty of other good relevant replies, I just wanna express my admiration and love for being open and asking questions. I’ve seen a few people from other instances show genuine curiosity like this, and it’s quite heart-warming. Hope our instances can intermingle posts and ideas happily and constructively

Seemed like most of the arguing was because that seems to be a uniquely American phenomenon. Anyone outside 'merica has never seen or heard of such a thing happening.

I agree it’s work, but I also assert that, under Capitalism at least, it’s exploitative work that targets and injures the vulnerable and poor even more than the majority of other work. You cannot buy enthusiastic consent.
