The use of “six figures” as a measure of affluence goes back to at least the 60’s… if we use 1970 as a baseline, a salary of $100,000 then is $800,000 today, accounting for inflation.

Inflation isn’t the whole picture , but helps to demonstrate how dated the phrase is.

It’s true, but I wonder what aspects of the books they feel needed such a notice in order to provide context.

I can only assume they thought readers would be surprised or put off by something, or do they put a caution notice on all of their books written in the early 80’s?

In the US and Canada at least, there are laws that cover granting birthright citizenship to people born in their airspace of those countries. And since they share a border, it could happen, in theory. Would also depend on the citizenship status of the parents, I imagine…

In practice, I would hope you are right, this would not cause any issues. But if it happened, it would probably get news attention, and who knows what follows from that.
