I was doing that just fine 30/40 years ago with BBS, newsgroups, and later with forums such as Lemmy. Social media put a name or a face on people, and was combined with the regular “eternal septembers,” but it didn’t bring anything useful to the conversation IMHO.

Karma was always a stupid concept (whether it was Digg or Reddit) and you want to put that thing with your real identity and allow 4chan’s army to judge and bully people? What could go wrong?

There was a lot of local journaling applications on the iPhone 10 years ago but they were abandoned and died when Apple changed their API. It’s a shame because I had fun. Some are back with monthly subscription but it’s ridiculous.
