I’m currently on Winter’s Heart by Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time book 9). My brain is having trouble with how long this series is. I’ve felt that I must be near the end since book 4. This book has been going extra slowly for me.

I also recently finished Chain-Gang All-Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah. It was amazingly well-done. Not a “fun” read for sure but gripping and thought provoking and I couldn’t put it down.

I’ve been reading Wheel of Time book 5, The Fires of Heaven. Should finish this week but the next book is checked out at the library, so not sure what I’ll read while I wait for it to become available.

I finished A Crown of Swords (wheel of time book 7) and loved it but now I’m taking a short break from the series.

Currently reading Birnam Wood by Eleanor Catton. Thrillers are not generally my cup of tea, but it’s nice to read a fast paced book to break up the super long epic series.

Once that’s done, I’m going to reread To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Haven’t touched that book since middle school so I think it’s time for a revisit.

Finished Crossroads of Twilight by Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time book 10). It was enjoyable. Not much happened, but a lot was set up and it sounds like the next book will deliver.

Before I continue with that series, I’m reading The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store by James McBride. I’m about a third of the way through and so far it’s good. It’s the kind of story that follows it’s characters across many years, which I generally like, but something makes me worried it might not stick the landing and I can’t quite put my finger on it.

I wish I could wipe my memory and reread those books fresh. How are you liking them so far?

I like it a lot! The books are long (sometimes maybe longer than necessary), but the author is consistently managing to capture and hold my attention. Some things are predictable but there have also been twists that I didn’t see coming. I can’t wait to see how the characters will continue to grow and how the story will unravel.

I think that’s a great age to read the Percy Jackson series. I never finished it, but I found the books I did read enjoyable.

I finally finished The Wheel of Time series! I took forever to get through the last book, longer than with any of the slog books, but I’m so happy to be done. I do wish the last book was more satisfying. It just felt very different in tone from the rest, partly I think due to Sanderson running out of source material. But there was still a lot I enjoyed across the whole series, so I don’t regret putting the time into it.

I finished I Am Legend by Richard Matheson last night. My copy of the book contains a bunch of short stories by the author as well, so now I am reading through those. He is very effective at writing short, impactful horror.

I finished Prince of Fools by Mark Lawrence (The Red Queen’s War). Not sure what it is but this one didn’t click with me as well as other Mark Lawrence books I’ve read. I will continue the series though.

I just started A Fever in the Heartland by Timothy Egan. It’s about the KKK in the 1920s. So far it’s both interesting and infuriating. I think I will learn a lot from this book.

I finished Educated by Tara Westover. I really liked this book. It gave me a glimpse into an upbringing that is about as different from mine as I can imagine. If you want to get an idea of what it’s like to grow up in a distrusts-anything-government, survivalist family, I highly recommend.

Now I’ve started Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. I’m still early on but I love how this book started. It instantly gripped me and I can’t wait to see how it goes.
