donโt forget to bring a towel!
Through the release of the first iPhone to the mid 2010s Iโd wager that most consumers agreed that iPhones were superior to Android by most metrics: they featured more support across the board, had more apps, looked nicer, and were considered the premium. Apple pioneered the modern smartphone and had a headstart in getting users hooked into their ecosystem. Nowhere was this more pronounced than in the wealthiest country in the world (and Appleโs home country).
Thatโs a huge generalization but I think it resonates true to a degree. Also, anecdotally, I remember that all my school computers were Macs when growing up. Iโm sure Apple seeped its tendrils into peopleโs lives a variety of ways. Itโs not a cake walk for most people to switch ecosystems. As a lifelong Windows user Iโll have a panic attack if you asked me to print a document on a Mac; Iโm sure its the same vice versa lol
r/Conservative is particularly interesting right now. Moderation canโt keep up with the rate that theyโve been attacking each other for not being โtrueโ conservatives (and these are flaired users: the regulars who have been vetted by the mods). Itโs like a litmus test for MAGAโs cohesion
Seems intelligent and Iโve enjoyed some of his videos. I donโt know much about him other than heโs a bitโฆ intense? and heโs sparked controversy with some people. I looove the FUTO keyboard app heโs associated with. Itโs the best TTS keyboard Iโve found, and I refuse to use the Google/Samsung/etc equivalents
Drug addiction. Its not necessarily easy to fix, but we know how to treat it and take care of our vulnerable, we just donโt: social workers, public services, shelters, safe drug sites with drug counselors. Weโve become so numb to the mass suffering on a societal and individual level.
Personal anedcote, a year ago, a man was dying of an OD next to our Tim Hortonโs drive thru, splayed out in the middle of the road, and the dozens of people driving by cared more about getting their coffee and getting to work than to even call an ambulance. I went to the pharmacy down the road and got a narcan kit and administered it, but Jesus Christ I lost a lot of trust and faith in my fellow man that day. Not enough people care; even people I love and respect say disgusting things about homeless people.
- Keeps your progress if you exit without saving
- Supports tabs so you donโt have 5 separate notepad windows open
- syntax highlighting for programming languages and markdown format
- plugin support
- can handle extremely large text files (Iโve opened 50gb text files and used ctrl+f to find terms and it worked fine)
- superb tools for manipulating text (e.g., use reg expressions). Super easy and flexible in making mass edits.
- dark mode support. That alone makes it superior lol
If you just need a quick window open to make a note you might actually prefer Sticky Notes over Notepad!
Sorry, I misread. What is bad about the UX exactly? You donโt need to customize anything if you donโt want to; โit just worksโ. And I dont follow you on how having the option to customize things makes it a bad user experience. Youโre assuming the native UI is bad for some reason.
Iโve used Plex a lot too back in the day but thereโs nothing it provides that Jellyfin doesnโt do out of the box + self-hosted + for free.
Man Iโve been looking for this exact sort of project for ages. Thanks for sharing, OP!
You can change the UI design to whatever you want with a custom CSS. Can make your own or thereโs a plethora of themes on GitHub. I remember trying one that replicated the Netflix app, and donโt hold me to it but I think I saw a Plex one as well.
Also, regarding the metadata, there are options that auto populate it for you. Idk how it does it, but my haphazard library of torrents all had accurate metadata AND it downloaded the subtitle files as well.
