TF2 is coming up on 20 years and I feel like we’re still getting clones.

I would actually like even 1 good clone of tf2. The hero part is always the focus and not the fun class based gameplay

I never played TF2, but weren’t the characters more like “archetypes” than full-fledged characters with backstories and all that?

Well, there are the comics that explain 'em better in that regard

For starters, Heavy is of White Guard background, which explains his father being , while fighting the Reds

It’s hard to iterate on perfection.

My favorite thing about TF2 is how when it comes down to it, the characters are all psychopathic, mentally deranged mercenaries wasting their lives for hats. Like even Ms Pauling is a workaholic secretary who’s also basically a serial killer. As comedic as the premise is, it’s also dark which is fitting for Source engine games.

Every other game makes their characters noble heroes saving the world from armageddon which is overplayed. The TF2 mercs go against machines, but it’s not the main game lol
