I really enjoyed the RE:2 remake but for some reason I haven’t been interested in getting over the difficulty curve of RE:4. RE:7 seems to be a much similar slow paced trip through an unfolding building and I wanted peoples opinions of the game and its current level of performance on the deck. I really enjoy 60 fps but I can go lower if it is stable. I am also okay with turning graphics down if it still looks decent and can get me more battery life.

I’m not sure if I’d describe RE7 as a slow-paced trip. It got pretty freaking terrifying pretty quickly. And since it’s first-person it plays quite differently than RE2/4. But it’s a must-play as I think it’s the inflection point in the RE series where the survival horror aspects really got good again.

Thank you for the recommendation! I wouldn’t know as I haven’t played RE:7 fully yet but I mean to say enjoyed the puzzle-action-puzzle-action type pacing of of RE:2 and I thought 7 might be more like that. 2 also had a spectacular ending so I don’t mind the stakes ramping up. The problem I had with RE:4 was I didn’t particularly enjoy the longer action bursts where I get mobbed by zombies but maybe I wasn’t patient enough to get to the power trip part of the game.

RE7 (and Village, its direct sequel) do a pretty good job of humbling you as soon as you get a bit overpowered. Someone else correct me if I’m wrong, but I recall reading somewhere that the difficulty dynamically scales - if you’re doing too well, the game gets harder. If you’re low on ammo and shooting desperately at a boss going “Die! Die! Die!”, you may find that more often than not the last few bullets in your mag seem to do the trick. Furthermore, there are sequences where certain characters will just keep coming. You are expected to run and hide. Usually when you’re just about to finish a puzzle, you’ll have to set it down and come back to it in a little bit because someone or something is after you again.

They’re absolutely wonderful games, and I cannot recommend them enough if you’re a fan of the series.

I looked into the dynamic difficulty a little and its very interesting. RE:2 remake seemed to always have a level of tension/difficulty to it even as I got better and it must be due to the changing enemy placements, etc. that the system does. When I first read your comment I thought “that just sounds annoying” but if it’s similar to RE:2 then that makes sense as a system to keep the game from getting stale.

I think I will give RE:2 a few more playthroughs and then try one more to get through 4 before I grab other ones but I’m thoroughly a fan of all things resident evil now lol

They honestly are some of the best games in the series, up there with the first couple, although I know those are fairly dated now, unless you play the remake
