If they had said “actually I am from x” I could have engaged differently. But frankly it doesn’t matter because they are getting very defensive and calling others westerners without even saying where they are from. They certainly don’t have to I aint fishing for personal info or anything but given the surrounding context I could not help but respond the way I did.
