I constantly get comments about how fast I walk. Like, it’s not a run or a sprint—I walk kind of funny but other than that it’s a normal walking gait, just sped up. I walk so fast that when I have it in me, I can keep pace with my friends when they’re on their bikes.

I also like listening to metal or hard rock while I’m walking, and matching my pace to the drum beat or something. It makes me feel awesome.

I’m a cook and am hyper aware of other people around me cause a lot of the time not doing so could get you stabbed or burned by accident, you announce that you’re moving, do so with purpose, call before going around a corner, say you’re behind someone before passing behind them etc. Cause of this, I am VERY judgemental of how bad people are at navigating the world and how little awareness they have of what’s going on around them. I’m also usually watching for opportunities to pass, so I’m watching them feet like I’m Quentin Tarantino and you could put these people in shackles and they wouldn’t even notice.

Lmaoooo. That does make me wonder if spatial awareness is just one of those things that people assume is ‘innate’ or ‘common sense’ but actually has to be taught/nurtured. I’m super fucking clumsy cos my arms are lankly kong long, but I do dance and having to be not only conscious of myself and others but kinda like you say, im guessing the need to the speed/synch with others has spilled over into other parts of my life.

It’s a skill. I am constantly getting after people for not doing this shit at work, I don’t fuck around when it comes to safety and someone quietly walking behind our line could get bashed with a pizza paddle or shoved into the window of a 640 degree oven and get a brutal hand/arm burn. Not to mention not saying you are moving with a knife or anything sharp when you do so or hot pots or pans, and if it’s full of hot water or oil mention that as well and loud enough people hear you. Also saying ‘behind’ is kinda pointless if you’re already within an inch of the person you’re telling that to. I’m also a bit of a Personal Space guy and need to keep telling people aks me for stuff that’s near me and I’ll pass it to them instead of reaching past me. It’s a necessary discipline that should already be a reflex to some i work with, it’s just really dangerous to be cavalier with that stuff, it seems like no big deal until it is. Recently when going to my laundry bag to get a dish towel that i washed recently to dry my knife alone at home I called out ‘corner, knife!’ When going to my bedroom to get the towel. I say ‘behind’ to strangers at grocery stores when passing them all the time.

Also I don’t get why people always walk dead center of a sidewalk or groups cluster and take the whole thing up,.I live around a college and holy fuck those kids will walk straight into you cause you won’t walk on the shoulder for their benefit cause they have no awareness of anything but their group and whatever bullshit they’re talking about
