Remote Access status on my Plex server says it’s “Not available outside your network.” However, the couple of people I currently share my server with have no issues accessing it, I’ve verified port forwarding settings, I just loaded up the Plex app on my phone (wifi off, on cellular) and everything loads up fine.
If I hit the “Retry” button next to the public port, it’ll do the connection test and show that my server is indeed accessible from outside my network. But then, usually anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes, it’ll change back to showing it’s unavailable.
Since remote access doesn’t actually seem to be unavailable, I guess it’s not a huge deal. Just kinda bugs me. Server version is up-to-date according to the status page (Version 1.32.5.7349) - anyone else on this version noticing this issue?
Have you tried going into your router settings, finding the Plex computers IP address (CMD prompt ipconfig on Windows), locking it to the local IP 192.168.0.XXX it’s on so that you can open a port forwarding to Port 32400 (default for Plex).
You could just open Port 32400, but it’s best to only do it for the Plex computer and your router might not retain the same local network address.
Edit: It may also be needed that you open the port on the computer, which is more complicated and is done via Windows Firewall.
My Plex server is hosted on my Synology NAS, and my router has the correct port forwarding rules to route the Plex traffic where it needs to go. Since remote access still works, it doesn’t seem to be an issue with the port forwarding, but rather an issue with Plex itself and whatever method it uses to check remote connectivity.
Have you checked if your Internet Provider has you on something called CG-NAT, it’s where they do not grant you a personal IPv4 address which Plex needs. For me it’s something that’s been forced on by default at every Provider I’ve been with for years and have had to get they to turn it off.
I use a Dynamic DNS service to keep that updated. When I last tested the issue, it was showing the correct public IP in Plex’s settings.
