Yes.

I just had to log in and check. We pay $49.99 per year for our SSL cert. (Edit: Certs. We actually have two domains.) Do they do surge pricing or somethingā€¦?

I mean, SSL certs are free now:

https://letsencrypt.org/

https://certbot.eff.org/

Maybe not worth $50 a year to change your setup but thereā€™s no reason to pay for them anymore.

Some verified certificates are not free. As far as I know, Letā€™s Encrypt does not offer any ev/ov certs. Iā€™ve worked for e-commerce sites that could not use standard dv certs like you would get from Letā€™s Encrypt.

Granted this is still not a good reason to give money to GoDaddy.

The company pays for it. Not my dime. The expense doesnā€™t seem onerous and is just to name one example probably a small fraction of what we spend on pens in a year.

And we get everything of that ilk from one vendor with one bill. Itā€™s all managed in one place. The renewals all happen at the same time. They like that.

Edit: Itā€™s hilarious yā€™all are acting like youā€™re salty with me like this is my decision. I do what my boss tells me to do. Certainly there are better options for a lot of our business practices but at the end of the day if my recommendations are shot down itā€™s not my call. I hold the passwords and the keys, I do not hold the purse strings.

Thatā€™s not a good argument for GoDaddy. It just means that you and your company donā€™t care and are not qualified to make any claims about GoDaddyā€™s actual service.

Edit response:

Yes, I am salty with you like it is your decisionā€¦ to provide shitty information about GoDaddy that is irrelevant to the conversation. Your companyā€™s choice to make stupid decisions has nothing to do with how scummy GoDaddy is. But it was your decision to come here to talk about the subject and spout garbage.
