Domestic terrorism has been used by liberal nutjobs for decades there were a bunch of liberal groups in 60s 70s and 80s that bombed federal buildings (weather underground, black Panthers, anarchists, …) It wasn’t until the 80s that right wing nut jobs started following the liberal terrorism playbook.

The weather underground, SLA, NWLF, black Panthers… were responsible for hundreds of bombings in the 70s, that’s just one decade.
