I loved how the shopkeeper in Link’s Awakening would kill you if you stole anything from his shop. Also every NPC starts calling you THIEF.

Yeah I thought it was really interesting how the gameplay penalty is tiny but the psychological penalty is harsh. Really encouraged me to never do it again on subsequent playthroughs.

At least a couple screens down is the crane game that can be cheesed pretty easily. Not as easy in the remake, but not too hard.
