I used to browse reddit on rif for years before the official app even released. The official app is like “can I have a reddit, mom?” - “we have reddit at home” Reddit at home: takes an eternity to load even if it’s a text post, keeps recommending me stuff I didn’t sub to, full of ads, screen is filled with full sized images so it takes a lot longer to see posts that I’m willing to click on…

I miss rif. I used to lurk and look at memes on rif all the time, occasionally asking for advice on relationships or jobs or whatnot. I’m considering quitting reddit altogether, just found out about Lemmy. Is there a lotr memes or prequel memes community over here?

I’ve been using an app called Connect for Lemmy. It’s definitely better than the Reddit app, but I would like to find something more similar to RIF.

Giving myself some time to get comfortable with this, and probably start experimenting with other apps.

I’ve been using Connect as well and love it. All the UI customization options allowed me to make it look and feel very much like RiF. Plus the developer is very active and updates it frequently.

I’ll have to dig deeper on the customization I guess. Thanks for mentioning that.

Just to second the above, I’ve also found the transition between rif and Connect to be okay. Things like a amoled theme and reverse list display have it feeling very similar to me. There’s still plenty of differences of course. One little thing I’m realising I’m missing is not being able to see the domain of a link post before pressing it.
