Here in the US they give you the cart behind the till and you leave yours for the next person, so how does it work with tokens, are you like “no I gotta keep this cart, we bonded”?

You put a £1 coin in, you get a trolley, when you’re finished and put it back you get your £1 again. If you leave your trolley somewhere without putting it away you lose your £1 and whoever decides to grab it gets a free £1.

I get that, but here in the US you always end up walking out with a different trolley to the one you walk in with.

Ok, and I just told you in the UK how it’s done and that you don’t do that. You don’t swap, you keep it until you return it yourself outside.
