Cyberpunk fiction had it so backwards. The neon places are good. The evil places are all bland, uninspired architecture because every building is made just to sell later. That’s why places like Pizza Hut stopped making identifiable buildings, because no one was buying them.

They had it backwards with food too. The books all predicted evil capitalist hell food would be bland goo paste without flavor, instead it’s all overly sweet corn syrup and 400g of sodium.

I will eat bland goo paste every day if it’s cheap, nutritious, has no health downsides, and ethically sourced(vegan).

When I was a kid I thought that neon cities looked cool, I want to live there, and the bad cities are grey, cold, and even the rich people have shaded, vampire apartments.
