WHY WOULD YOU CUT THE AUDIO!!! ITâS SO MUCH BETTER!!! Itâs honestly so dumb and unfunny without it. Sorry for the reddit link
Lemmyâs web instances do not display real videos. Also some applications, like Jerboa, do not display videos. Because of this, you have to convert the video to the outdated animated picture format - gif.
This format appears in all applications and web instances, but does not contain audio.
I think if we all flood the developers with requests for video support in Lemmy, things might change.
I thought gifs had support for audio these days? Or is that just a reddit thing?
those arenât actually gifs.
theyâre frequently webms.
various people donât care or donât know the difference between media formats though, so theyâll just call anything remotely gif-like a gif.
The old gif format doesnât support audio. Anything called gif with audio are mp4 video files. On the imgur site, you may have seen files with the extension gifv, butâŚ
Quote : âWhen you view a GIFV file on a website such as Imgur, youâre viewing a video file, which would normally have the file extension .mp4 or .webm. The server is configured to serve the video using the extension â.gifv,â but the videoâs file format is unchanged.â
