Bud an aquarium glass magnetic cleaner meme?
That’s deep.
I can tell you for a fact that the reason Trump is ranting about these steam powered aircraft carrier launch systems that we don’t use anymore, is because when we did use them, they required massive boilers and compressors, heat exchangers, turbines, and of course massive plumbing systems, which were all wrapped in asbestos, one of Russia’s main exports.
Trump also has made the claim numerous times that if the Twin Towers had not had asbestos remediation done, they would not have burned and would not have fallen.
I have Zero doubt that Trump gets money and support from Russian Asbestos mining magnates.
The dude is a straight up lizard. I’ve seen a number of the memos from various companies in the 70s and '80s when they actually wrote down on a piece of paper and put their signature under it, that their company or their product line would not phase out asbestos even though it would kill workers, because it was easier and cheaper, and that’s exactly what Trump is saying only he’s talking about continuing to use asbestos through the entire country.
This is one reason why it is a fucking joke when blue collar or working people say that Trump stands up for workers. This dude literally wants to bring back and make legal a substance that has killed millions of American workers and their family members via take-home exposure, and the only reason is because it would greatly benefit Russia.
Asbestos is miracle stuff though. Fantastic insulation material. You can affordably fill your attic with loose asbestos, and it’s a mould resistant, fire resistant insulator. Better for almost all current alternatives. Great for roof tiles too. Will last forever.
Heat resistant, chemical resistant, strong, muffles sound, doesn’t conduct electricity… there’s a reason there’s still so much of the stuff everywhere in buildings.
Obviously, there’s is the whole significantly increased risk of painful death thing. But if it wasn’t for that one small detail, it’s really so much better than the alternatives for so many applications.
Great for all those things someone has to make, someone else has to install, someone else has to service, and someone else has to discard. There’s no safe level.
One interesting fact is that Roman historian Pliny the Elder wrote about the stiff lungs and early deaths of tribes who mined asbestos in the first century.
And appreciation of this health risk was lost to time until the 1950s.
