I have a lovely plex server set up and working very well, with tons of content ready to play. Now I just need a client for my TV that doesn’t piss me off. I absolutely detest Google/Android TV, and my Apple TV periodically wipes out my Plex preferences, which is a known issue.

I’d like to have a 100% dedicated plex client for my TV. I don’t want or need it to do anything else at all, and it has to be totally remote friendly and capable of playing 4k/60 UHD content.

Any suggestions?

Shield pro is what people almost universally recommend. I have never tried it so I can’t confirm or deny. My tv has a native app that works really well, before I used the 4k Chromecast

I don’t have a shield pro, but I have the original shield which is basically equivalent to it. I would definitely recommend it.

Shield is the only correct answer. Pro or regular, doesn’t matter.

I have a Shield Pro. It’s still shitty android TV and it’s not a completely dedicated Plex player. I have literally zero interest in any other apps.

Try the native Plex app on your TV. It runs smooth on my LG B9 and supports more encodes than the chromecast surprisingly. I’ve had some things play on the native app that Chromecast refused. I set mine up to launch automatically when you hold down the 2 button on the remote. That way I don’t have to fiddle around with the bullshit android tv interface. You can probably bind Plex to the Netflix button on your shield for a similar feel
