Starting on March 25, 2024, your plan price will change

Thank you for being a Nest Aware subscriber. We wanted to let you know that the price of your Nest Aware Plus subscription for Home will soon increase from CA$160 a year to CA$200 a year (plus applicable taxes). Learn more about the upcoming price change.

This new price will come into effect with your next bill that occurs on or after March 25, 2024. Your Nest Aware subscription will continue at the adjusted price and your current benefits will remain the same with 60 days of event video history, up to 10 days of 24/7 video history, smart alerts and other helpful features (learn more here). 1,2

You may refuse this change and cancel your subscription without cost, penalty or cancellation indemnity by sending us a notice to that effect no later than 30 days after the amendment comes into force. You can learn how to view, manage or cancel your plan at any time here.

In other news, can someone recommend a good, affordable open-source stack for security cameras with local recording to a home server (remote access would be a bonus)

I know you said Open Source but the ones I tried were not fabulous. I used BlueIris for about a decade. I recently depreciated that for a Ubiquity NVR and cameras. BlueIris works well if you have an Intel CPU with iGPU to do the decoding. BlueIris can record to network attached storage and if you follow online guidelines you can ensure CPU utilization isn’t through the roof.

I’m open to closed source if I can host it locally and costs less than $200 + the cost of the cameras :P

And yes, my home server running Ubuntu does have an Intel iGPU as it’s a Lenovo ThinkCentre M900

I think BlueIris full retail copy is something like $50. You pay yearly for upgrades which is around $25. It’s gone through many major upgrades. They do have a trial you can grab to give it a shot.
