Last year someone gave me a pair of Sennheiser headphones—dead ass gave them to me. I was ballin’. I got to be a homeless person with an iPhone 12 and a pair of Sennheisers. And then my idiot friend set off a series of unfortunate events that resulted in the loss of my headphones, along with everything else I owned at the time.

So last month when this very sweet devout Christian saw a comment of mine about being a homeless drug addict, and sent me $300. I bought a new pair of Sennheisers on Mercari. I’m pretty sure it was the same model even.

I finally got around to checking my mail and—the headphones are fucked off. They won’t pair or fucking anything.

I had to fight the screaming urge to slam them on the ground.

I’m sure you’ve never splurged on anything before. Being unhoused comes with the added burden of people expecting financial perfection from you. But responses like yours are literal cruelty.

$300 is now like 2 weeks of groceries, and about 15% of the cheapest monthly rent in my area.

I’d argue the psychological benefit of being able to listen to music properly outweighs that. This person doesn’t need financial advice, they need levels of support that simply aren’t fucking available in this country to those who have no money already.

I mean let’s be real: $300 can easily feed you a month if we’re just talking sustenance. And sure, buy a cheap$10 pair of ear buds, but blowing your load on higher end headphones when you’re living in the fucking street, can’t feed yourself, and are relying on the charity of others is fucking idiotic.

So first point, I 100% understand the need for an escape when your living situation is precarious. I’ve been there. That being said…
