Well, if multiple countries are all saying the same thing then it just might be reeee bad…
That would be called the populum fallacy. Just because something is popular, doesn’t make it right.
I notice none of you have actually provided any logical reasoning here that contradicted me, just reiterated the same “but others are doing it” stance.
Why is TikTok being banned? Because of 'surveillance"? Okay, then why isn’t facebook and others? – Oh because they’re part of the same allied group who have an agreement to spy on each others citizens (five eyes).
It’s basically saying “You’re okay to spy on Americans if you’re an ‘American’ company or at least one of the countries we’re allied with”…
But, we’re looking at a double-standard here. This is literally only being implemented because “ree china bad”.
Give me some good arguments here, that…CANNOT…also be applied to American social media companies, and you’ll have won this argument.
American social media is also not okay.
But this isn’t an either/or situation. We can shit on both.
And Tiktok, just like Facebook (and the CCP and the US government) deserves all the hate it gets.
But this isn’t an either/or situation. We can shit on both.
But you’re not. That’s about as clear as water. None of this legislation has any effect whatsoever on American companies…
Why?
Because this is a nationalism thing. Not a security thing. Not a health and well-being thing. This is a nationalism thing.
It’s also an Israel thing; lots of pro-palestine content on TikTok, and Israel wants that shit shut down.
