There was a point in time where I thought that was a hyperbolic statement and was a meme. Same with “social democracy is the moderate wing of fascism”. Not anymore. Every day it just proves more and more true
Nah, it’s just the result of not having a true liberal/progressive party. As it stands, the current democratic party is more comparable to ‘normal’ conservative parties in progressive countries than anything resembling a sane liberal party.
No. I don’t think that’s exactly accurate. There is no comparing American parties with political parties from other countries. America is relatively unique in that it is an empire. Its political parties don’t really fit on the same standard as others around the world.
If you look at Latin America, Africa, Asia, the normal Conservative parties there have no interest in going to war every other week.
You might have been right, if the “moderate wing of fascism” quote wasn’t originally said by a Georgian (the other kind of Georgian) man in 1924.
I’m familiar with the quote, that’s why I didn’t think it was applicable to the entire democratic party. You could definitely argue the point when it comes to the factions within the party that carry the fascists water for them under the guise of bipartisanship, but that’s also why I used quotes around normal conservative. Since I would say we are 10 years( probably much less) from that ‘moderate wing of fascism’ being a wholly accurate description of the party.
