Glitch McConnell bricks himself.

I’m so torn. On the one hand this guy is a massive piece of shit and he deserves to be publicly ridiculed and shamed. On the other hand, getting old is scary as fuck and I feel some way about mocking someone about a clear neurological issue.

This whole thing just gives me the ick.

Politics aside, he just needs to retire at his age. (As do all people in positions of influence at that age.)

Getting old is a thing, unfortunately. Various privileges should be limited as cognitive decline increases. Driving, politics and even restrictions on physically demanding jobs are the first things I can think of that need to be pulled back from people. (Comprehensive and standardized cognitive testing may be an option? Not all people age the same way, obviously.)

Yeah, I’ll be old soon enough and will probably be kicking myself for saying the above in due time.

Well driving is a trickier one, especially here in the states. Loss of driving privileges means a loss of independence and the ability to do basically anything. Sure there’s help of various kinds but it’s expensive and not availible to everyone who needs it. I agree that elderly people need intense scrutiny when it comes to driving but it’s not so clear cut

This is just another reason we need to get rid of our dependency on cars, not a reason to keep letting people with the reflexes of molasses drive 2 tons of steel.

We should take his wishes into account as well. Would younger mitch McConnell be OK with old demented mitch being strung up and used like a fascist puppet? Yes, I think he would. So I don’t particularly feel bad for him, but good God someone put him and Feinstein in a home for the sake of the nation already.

I’m not. People should not feel bad about evil/bad people being hurt or dying. Especially when it’s at no fault of your own. Catharsis is a perfectly human emotion.

The quicker the guy drowns himself thinking he can breathe through his asshole the better.

It’s more that when you mock someone like this, you’re essentially mocking everyone else going through the same thing inadvertently.

I remember a panel show where comedians ripped into this homophobic journalist, and they really went after her having a lazy eye.

She deserved it, but the jokes were extremely harsh and they were essentially making fun of the condition rather than the person.

Exactly this. Make fun of them for the shitty things they are / do, don’t attack things they can’t control. That’s not right.

The only people who think this are unwanted white knights and selfish pearl clutching concern trolls lol.

Nobody is equating feeling overjoyed with Mitch the Turt McGurt stroking out with some random dad who died of an aneurysm.

Same. I have endless issues with his politics but that’s what I want to focus on. Abelism isn’t alright just because you don’t like the person with health issues.

Somehow this guy at his 81 years makes the President (80) and his main rival (77) look vital by comparison. It’s a shame the more youthful progressive candidate (81) is bound to be sidelined. And that politics are derailed by a majority evil, deeply corrupt supreme court, as illustrated by the recent adventures of one of its members (75).

Thomas Jefferson, who was 33 years old when he signed the constitution, said Constitutions should be rewritten every 19 years. Every generation had the right to their own rules, he claimed.

The Constitution is now 234 years old. That’s almost three times as old as McConnell.

At least it looks like you guys might be getting rid of one of them soon. But I’m not sure that’s going to solve the age problem of American politics.

Doesn’t help that young people don’t vote.

On the positive side, turnout among people aged 18-24 was the highest it had been since the early 70s in 2020, despite the candidates arguably not being the most relatable for that age group.

It’s still obvious that this is a problem though - turnout among people 45+ has been above average at least since the 60s, and the 65+ group has seen the highest turnout of any group for more than three decades now.

Man if the American constitution was rewritten every 19 years, or at least easier (but not too easy) to amend, they would be somewhere else

It’s a fun contrast to see in the light of Constitutional Originalists, who maintain that the Constitution should be interpreted according to the intention at the time it was written rather than being interpreted as a living document.

By their own argument, the intention of its authors was that it shouldn’t be taken so god damn literally hundreds of years later.
