Lathe of Heaven

The Lathe of Heaven is a 1971 science fiction novel by American writer Ursula K. Le Guin, first serialized in the American science fiction magazine Amazing Stories. It received nominations for the 1972 Hugo and the 1971 Nebula Award, and won the Locus Award for Best Novel in 1972. Two television film adaptations were released: the PBS production, The Lathe of Heaven (1980), and Lathe of Heaven (2002), a remake produced by the A&E Network.

The novel explores themes and philosophies such as positivism, Taoism, behaviorism, and utilitarianism. Its central plot surrounds a man whose dreams are able to alter past and present reality and the ramifications of those psychologically derived changes for better and worse.

The United States balkanizes over desperate drought-mitigation measures as climate change really kicks into high gear. Western states start screaming about building bulk water pipelines from the Great Lakes, the states on the Great Lakes just give a collective “Fuck that shit!”, and politics instantly realigns into “states who still have good water sources” versus “every other state”, with the legislative agenda dominated by arguments over the federal government’s jurisdiction over interstate water redistribution in an emergency situation.

Israel collapses upon itself due to circumstances entirely of its own making (for example, not rescuing hostages from Gaza, drafting rabbis into the military, indefinitely delaying elections).

This is really just the next ~1 year but I can hope.

I don’t think they will sub in Hillary Clinton instead of Biden and I don’t think she’d win against Trump.

But fuck it would be kind of funny wouldn’t?

Like Hillary gets in 8 years and 2 presidents later. The supreme court is packed with conservatives, the reactionary response is insane (like Obama teaparty turned to 11), the carefully cultivated imperial project is on decline, and she’s just doing a really lacklustre job that libs have to insist is historic.

But like she is somehow worse than Biden AND because she’s the first woman president you’re a sexist for not supporting her death squads in whatever additional conflict she has started.

The British Royal Navy will claim that one of its vessels was hit and almost sunk by the Houthis. It will quickly be revealed that it was crashed into by another British Royal Navy vessel operating in the area. The Houthis will post a barrage of memes about it and the accident will cost the hundreds of millions and it’s ability to continue its support of the mission.
