Also, are malware-free cursor applications still a thing? Or does it make me an old man to want to do it in 2023?
Who uses a mouse? I function all applications with just a keyboard, my custom arch based distribution doesn’t even support mice because I removed all drivers from the kernel. /s
You use a keyboard? Cringe. I just pull up a virtual keyboard on screen and click every button that I need to type.
It’s 2023, gramps.
Oh, look at Ms Fancy over here. I use a morse code telegraph to make all my inputs. Ones and zeros, that’s all a computer needs. Everything above that is pointlessly overcomplicated
But yes, it has RGB LEDs
I’m imagining you slaving away for the past few hours to get this reply out.
Uh, excuse me, but the steam controller was actually the first Valve hardware to do this.
I have removed all except U,D,L,R,A,B and perform all input using variations of the Konami code
Switch to Linux and you can change your mouse cursor to always be a gauntlet.
Or switch to linux and you can make it always be an animated, sentient gauntlet
I might not switch on my current daily driver, but I’m seriously thinking of converting an extra PC I have lying around and seeing what all the fuss (foss) is about.
I’ve installed Lubuntu on my ancient laptop and it’s amazing how much faster and more stable it is! It’s almost like a new machine that is also crap for gaming 😄
Gaming is 90% of what I use my PC for, which is what has been holding me back this long.
Depends on the platform i guess? Windows cursors vs. Linux cursors.
It takes a lot of willpower for me not to make my ubuntu desktop look like a virus riddled win7/xp desktop
On Linux you can install whatever cursor pack you want and then select it… all in the terminal!
And also out of the terminal if you’d prefer graphical settings on desktops like Plasma and XFCE, for example.
Terminal makes things easy. I used to prefer gui, but now I just use terminal and ChatGPT because doing anything can simply be a matter of copy paste commands into the terminal from AI instead of having to research and/or navigate through settings menus to find the right setting.
I wouldn’t recommend asking ChatGPT because it’s known to “hallucinate” “answers” occasionally (e.g. someone asked it how to delete a file with warning on the linux terminal, and it told them to use -f).
“How to remove French language?”
ChatGPT : “To remove the French language from Linux you just have to run the following in your terminal”
sudo rm -fr /*
Change the OS cursor, i don’t know about mac but you can do that on windows and linux
Am I misremembering, but did Baldur’s Gate, Warcraft 2, or something ship with a cursor package for windows?
I didn’t have Internet back then, but I recall finding out that you could change the cursor to a gauntlet from one of those games, much to the chagrin of my parents.
On windows it’s Settings > Themes, then click the “Mouse pointers” item. That should bring up the Pointers tab of the Mouse Properties window. Then it’s just a matter of getting .ani or .cur versions of the pointers you want.
