I am working on creating a website that list the services/sites that serve their content(news, articles, photos, videos, music, webcomics,…etc) under creative commons licenses.

I ask from anyone who read this post to comment with whatever resources they know about that are licensed under creative commons.

Thanks to everyone who contributes to this.

Cool project. Do you have a domain yet? If so, let me know what it is - I’d like to personally contribute.

I will be hosting it on cloudflare pages, but I prefer to polish it more before releasing to the community.

I will send it to you when I finish:)

I would love to get your contributions.

I recently created a game and used some music that was Creative Commons.

Man, what a pain in the balls it was to find stuff I liked.

Many of the sites that indexed this music had crappy search engines in them. I needed to search for music by key and some sites just didn’t do that.

The bigger problems was that the sites felt very bloated and slow to me. And the one I finally found music on (looperman) required an account to download the song files.

I suspect if I didn’t have uBlock + Ad blocking in my router, that the sites would have been unusable and suffocating with ads.

I have nothing to really help you with, but I hope you have success making a less shitty resource than what I found for CC music :).

Libre Culture

What is libre culture?

Libre culture is all about empowering people. While the general philosophy stems greatly from the free software movement, libre culture is much broader and encompasses other aspects of culture such as music, movies, food, technology, etc.

Some beliefs include but aren’t limited to:

  • That copyright should expire after a certain period of time.
  • That knowledge should be available to people, not locked away.
  • That no entity should have unjust control or possession of others.
  • That mass surveillance is about mass control, not justice.
  • That we can all band together to help liberate each other.

Check out this link for more.

Rules

I’ve looked into the ways other forums handle rules, and I’ve distilled their policies down into two simple ideas.

  • Please show common courtesy: Let’s make this community one that people want to be a part of.

  • Please keep posts generally on topic

  • No NSFW content

  • When sharing a Libre project, please include the name of its license in the title. For example: “Project name and summary (GPL-3.0)”

Libre culture is a very very broad topic, and while it’s perfectly okay for a conversation to stray, I do ask that we keep things generally on topic.
