The enshittification of terminal stage market capitalism with no new virgin markets to exploit and get kids to make them for 40 cents a day.
Even if they did, market sectors have self-cannibalalized and conspireed to the point that they’d just pocket the slavery profits and keep making shitty stuff because fuck you poorie, you can’t afford designer clothes and you have nowhere else to go.
The ultimate goal of market capitalism is to end competition.
Because people expect to pay the same price they’ve been paying for twenty / thirty years with no drop in quality? Meanwhile, fast fashion has become a cultural norm driven by social media so people are more likely to buy crap from Temu and Shein they only intend on wearing once. https://youtu.be/VaS-iVwaOLw?t=267
Interesting take in this video about A&F given I just watched a WSJ video about how they’ve turned the company around, in part, by marketing towards older millennials who care more about the quality and the fit of the materials - “this older audience cared more about an items quality” and "they changed their fit models to better align with their average customer ". The context of this WSJ report is how their stock price has skyrocketed to levels faster than Nvidia.
Another good video on it from John Oliver https://youtu.be/VdLf4fihP78?si=zXfE2Yf42V8jhcmv
And another funny one from Climate Town https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CkgCYPe68Q

No. It appears that you didn’t watch the video. It’s being done purposely by the manufacturers.
Polyester, that’s why.
I wanted jeans that would last more than two months. Buying stuff that quotes its quality of cotton and weight of cloth just breaks at the seams.
Well stitched stuff tears.
Price is no guide.
I en ended up buying a brand and model that scored well in amateur testing
And yet we have surplus of used shot that nobody wants…
At some point people deserve what they get. God forbid you have to wear something more than twice …the horror
