Until a few days ago I was posting youtube links, and the thumbnail and link description would be filled in automatically.

Now, there’s no thumbnail image and instead of the youtube preview text for my linked video, its some generic youtube stuff in french:

  • YouTube www.youtube.com Profitez des vidéos et de la musique que vous aimez, mettez en ligne des contenus originaux, et partagez-les avec vos amis, vos proches et le monde entier.

Something broke?

There was some discussion of this in one of the admin chats and this seems to be a Hetzner issue. You’re post on SDF has the correct metadata. Also compare my post here on feddit.uk (Hetzner) to this one here (Linode).

Do you have any additional info on this Hetzner problem/fix, or perhaps a link to the admin community or discussion thread where they were discussing it?

I’d like to be able to point my instance’s admin there (as we’re seeing the same problem on both lemmy.blahaj.org and beehaw.org).

Thanks!

I just pop catbox.moe screenshot up, my title and link if I care or think it is relevant. That beats the sponsorship garbage that often gets pulled in from YT and the click bait thumbnails too.

I noticed the same thing; I thought it was on my end, hahaha.

My YouTube link description shows up in Russian; it seems their server that gets the data for links has changed.

A guess: VPNs cause a similar thing to search engine results, where whatever language is the majority shows up in your search results.
