so clearly you should just walk up to the last person on the escalator and stand next to them

Reminds me of this George Carlin bit:

Have you ever noticed when you’re driving that anyone who’s driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone driving faster than you is a MANIAC!

I withhold my “MANIAC” comments for the people around here that weave in between lanes, no turn signal, tailgating, going 20 over

It honestly makes my blood boil with just how irresponsible people that drive like that are

I just watched a semi driver do literally all of those things.

Not even on the interstate, on local roads.

I watch people do this all the time on local roads! It happens on interstates here as well!

Just yesterday I almost had someone pit maneuver themselves on the front of my work truck (that was towing a heavily loaded trailer!) I still don’t know why they didn’t just slow down and go behind me (or SPEED UP A LITTLE MORE) rather than almost cause a terrible accident, since they turned right 20 seconds later and had ample time to do so

In the Netherlands, normal people cycle to work and the grocery store or use public transit. It’s just more convenient. As a result, only people who like driving use the roads. Netherlands is considered the best country for driving a car.

When you see a maniac driver, blame a politician who put in oNe MoRE lAnE instead of investing in safe transit.

The roads here are super bad, for sure. But it’s not exclusively the politician’s fault! Just mostly ;)

You can’t forget that these drivers are making the conscious decision to not be careful in a multi ton flattening machine

Same, but with the moving pathways at the airport

Me in either case:

“Walk the left, stand on the right, dipshit”

I’ve seen Americans shout this in countries that drive on the left side of the road. Everyone looked embarrassed for them.

I don’t think there’s any consistent association between side of the road and side of the escalator. E.g. within Japan, I think either Kansai or maybe Osaka specifically does it opposite to most of the rest of the country.

I was actually surprised when I was in the UK last year and people were standing on the right in the escalators. But they walked on the left in crowded places. I was expecting all pedestrian traffic to be left-sided, but it was more mixed, like their measurement systems…

Oh for sure for sure. Definitely reverse when traveling in countries that get it wrong want to remain a UK colony.

Sadly since COVID I’ve not been able to do much international traveling. But I do still get routed through Chicago O’Hare, which adds insult to injury

(Also I’m just joking about that colonies jab. The only “correct” way is the way the community at large has decided in a particular area.)
