Man they just keep turning the screw. I’m almost done with this bullshit. I’ve been a premium subscriber for a minute because I despise ads, but at a certain point, the content isn’t worth the price anymore.

I like this idea. Only problem is I do enjoy quite a few channels/creators. I’m so ready for a legit YT alternative.

The time is ripe, but I’m afraid that’s too steep a hill to climb for most anyone without burn the world down money.

That would be cool, but my main way of watching is on my TV, through my Xbox. Short of hooking up my laptop to the TV or phone to the TV, that won’t help.

I wonder if I use an old laptop for a pihole if that would work? I genuinely have no idea.

I’ve had an old laptop hooked up to my tv for years. Wireless mouse and keyboard to control everything from the couch. It’s glorious.

And they won’t stop turning the screw here. It’s going to get worse. The services will get more expensive as more features are cut. The pursuit of endless profits to prevent shareholders from filing lawsuits will make sure of that.

They want everyone to shift towards Revanced Extended for Android and Sponsorblock & other YouTube enhancing extensions for PC browsers?

Honestly, their excessive video ads pushed me to those and other alternatives like Newpipe and Libretube long ago. I also dislike the idea of locking basic functionality like background playback behind a subscription (one-time pro app payments would’ve been fine to me).

I can never let go of my $7.99/mo grandfathered plan from Google music which is now YouTube premium. That and Spotify are the only subscriptions I can justify now.

Same. $7.99 still here. This better not make it go up, been trying out Tidal and like it much better, will definitely switch if this goes up to $14

I recently discovered invidious, or however it’s spelled. The reason I started using it was because I wanted to get rid of YouTube shorts. They are too addicting and there is no way to turn it off on the official app.

The lack of ads is so nice, I think I’ll keep using it.

If they only had a way to remove or hide YouTube shorts, then I’d still be using their app watching their ads.
