Just a general thread about running. How’s your running going? What are you training for? Did you get new shoes? Sporting an injury etc.
2 months ago fell down the stairs and landed with all my weight onto my left large toe. figured it would’ve healed within a week, but here we are. missed my planned half, but there is always next year. Now its time to get back into a routine. Thankfully my work is hosting a step competition this month and i intend to run commute starting tomorrow!
I’d love to know more about how you run commute. Do you carry a bag and a change of clothes? Do you have shower facilities at the office? etc.
it took a bit a planning before starting, and all the questions you asked were factors in whether i would be able to do it. My job does have gym facilities on the premises and i do pack a change of clothes every day i run to work.
in my office i left some daily essentials like a small toiletries bag, a pair of shoes, emergency pair of socks, towel, and some snacks.
Choosing the right bag i felt was very important. i looked for a bag that was very light and had many anchor points so it wouldn’t move around while running. found the perfect bag - Flash22 by REI and is big enough to fit my clothes, 1-2 small electronics, and a bento. Thats about it because if i put anything more into it the bag becomes a burden. Planning out my pack was essential to make this enjoyable.
Some other things i prepped/tested:
I work mostly on computers, and since i am limited with bringing tech home due to space and weight, i made it so i could remote into any of my work devices before i started running.
i ‘raced’ the bus that stops by my home to see if i could beat it to the station. given it makes 10 stops, and i was able to take direct paths, it ended up with me being to the station a few minutes before. if i wouldve been outpaced greatly i dont think id have started.
probably my favorite bonus is that my daily run fits better into my schedule. When i get off work i hardly have time to do a run because i have to tend to my child. I’ll take him on stroller jogs, but sometimes that is a pain after a long day of work. so being able to squeeze in my commuting as my workout activity is really nice for time management.
If im not running i have an escooter, but as the weather changes ill like switch more to running.
im fortunate to be able to do this, and if youre able to id highly recommend giving it a shot!
Had a really bad knee / IT band lately. Currently I am trying to improve my core muscles and do a lot of biking.
But I am missing running so much and have the feeling I lose so much of my progress right now.
I’m about two weeks away from the ultra I’ve been preparing for. I had a few setbacks (plantar fasciitis, a few days lost to a mystery virus), and while I feel physically fit, I worry that at some point during the hours of running I will start dwelling on my less than optimal preparation. I’m trying to remind myself that nobody ever has a perfect race and that I should just control what I can. I suppose I should start tapering around this point, but I also feel like I should maybe plan one last really long training run to help with my confidence. We’ll see if I can find the time this week.
Running my first ultra this weekend. Very excited and very ready. I’ve been training for this for months. LFG.
I got a Forerunner 265 during Garmin’s 100$ off sale. Waiting for my back to recover from getting tweaked to get back out running. Looking forward to all the new run features as well as daily fitness tracking.
