Summary
Jake Paul defeated 58-year-old Mike Tyson in an eight-round boxing match, with unanimous scores of 79-73 and 80-72.
The bout, widely criticized as a “stunted show,” highlighted Tyson’s physical decline, including issues with sciatica, a stomach ulcer, and knee problems.
Tyson, once a feared heavyweight champion, struggled to compete, while Paul’s performance lacked effort and authenticity.
Fans, initially supportive of Tyson, grew disenchanted, booing by the final rounds.
Tyson dismissed the fight’s significance beforehand, rejecting the concept of legacy as meaningless. The event was seen as a cynical, contrived spectacle.
Young rapist defeats old rapist in “which rapist can punch harder” contest.
I’ll take your word for it. I’ve never really understood the whole idea of boxing being entertaining in the first place.
Well it’s physical exercise so you’d have to do some to understand it better 😜
Same. Even the match before with the girls seemed like it was an incredible fight for boxing, and it was still just as entertaining as a rock ‘em sock ‘em robot game.
Skilled athletes are entertaining to watch. Guys that know how fight and do it well, at least. It can be a highly technical, highly skilled competition. Some people are just there to watch two adults beat the piss out of each other. Which, to be fair, is how the sport started.
I can say at least I understand martial arts, even if it’s not my thing, because there’s so much artistry in that and it’s a full body thing whereas boxing is basically just too dudes punching each other. Hit me up when the fighters start using Instant Transmission and Special Beam Cannon and I’ll give it another look
Which rapist can haphazardly throw an occasional swing in the vague direction of their opponent, at least half the time at least being close enough to theoretically connect.
Ftfy.
The only thing real in this conflict was the paychecks at the end.
You just reminded me of an awful joke my mom made many times about partying like it’s 1999 which I’m sure you’re referencing. Many times I asked her what our plans were and she would start singing that line in cringier and cringier ways that I groaned more and more as a kid, teenager, and adult. She passed unexpectedly a few years back.
All that to say, thanks for the rare reference I haven’t heard since, and I internally groaned again. I hope you have people to groan about it like I do you cheeky devil.
I never had it buffer once on me. Pirate IPTV > paying for a streaming svc.
I thought it was cute all the people saying Mike was going to murder him. As a 45 year old boxer I am pretty exhausted after 3 minutes. 5 rounds later and I’m ready for a nice cup of tea in an armchair sitting by the window. Time catches up to us all.
From my perspective, he was being way too careful to avoid hurting himself. At 58 you’re not going to recover as well, and dude has a bad knee which is a major disadvantage in boxing.
Plus, after not really boxing for 20 years, it’s perfectly believable that he lost his edge.
I don’t think it was necessarily scripted, but it wasn’t raw boxing. Nor could it be, given the contenders. Once Tyson ran out of gas, any other boxer would’ve gone for the KO, while Paul just kinda danced around to drag out the latter rounds. It was clearly an exhibition to get them both paid, not a real match.
I’m glad no one got hurt. The other fights on the card were better. Main event was boring and predictable. Tyson was slow and off balance. Paul threw and landed 2x the punches Tyson did. Not a match that would convince a non fan that there is something more to the sport than punching.
The dude is 58 and in better shape than the vast majority of people his age and he just made 20 millions.
He won
I’m not the OP, and I don’t much care about money so long as I have enough to be relatively comfortable, but I also don’t really feel as if I understand the concept of dignity. Why is it meaningful?
Sets an example for others, especially the younger generation. Reinforces that living up to a principle can benefit everyone. Puts ethics above selfishness, greed, hate.
Humans change their behavior based on what they see other humans doing. A person seeing most people or people of influence acting primarily in self-interest makes them that person more likely to do the same.
And, no, Libertarians, everyone acting in self-interest does not lead to better outcomes. That’s a childless myth.
The only person who lacks dignity here is the guy challenging someone twice his age to a boxing match.
Nah they probably sat together and said… we can make bank… let’s do this and give people a good show… And then they did the whole shebang and gave people a nice performance that cost next to nothing to produce and pocketed the rest. Pretty clever.
Jake Paul knows some people pay to see Tyson beat the anot out of him, others hate watch him and he has fans apparently.
The match was close despite the age difference and also the difference in the level of class both before and after the fight was staggering.
Jake Paul made a fool of himself.
Talking about dignity when it’s a sport where adult men punching each other in the face for entertainment
Also historically one of the most flagrantly corrupt sports in the world, up next to FIFA
Tyson can punch me up for 16 minutes straight, take whatever of my dignity he wants for himself, and I’d be cool with even 10 million.
The world isn’t going to shit because people are willing to entertain others for serious money.
Please forget that I raped that woman as I collect my millions…
EDIT: People so in-love with the persona or work of Tyson that they’ll disregard the unforgivable. That he still denies to this day, even with the evidence. That says more about you than it does this rich celebrity…
That says more about you
It says I was in diapers when the conviction happened. News to me.
