TL;DR

  • Motorola phone sales could be banned in the US if an ITC ruling in favor of Ericsson is upheld.
  • Ericsson has claimed that Motorola’s phones infringe upon its 5G wireless communications patents.
  • In an initial ruling, the ITC has found that Lenovo-owned Motorola violates Ericsson’s patents.

Dang. My motorola phone is pretty awesome though. Idk what I’ll get after this thing’s lifespan is done.

My Motorola G7 Power is a good phone. I have had it since 2021 and recently flashed LineageOS on it, and it works like a charm.

That’s too bad, the G stylus is actually a pretty decent midrange phone. It replaced my Fold and I was pleasantly surprised at how far midrange phones have come.

Me with with my 6 year old phone: “you guys have 5G?”

5G causes crazy battery drain and I don’t at all notice a noticeable difference in speed with it with typical cell phone usage. Not sure what I would need to do to actually notice the speed difference. Torrent a file? I have 5G disabled on my phone. Every now and then, I get a text from my cell carrier saying that my phone is 5G capable and I should enable it for better speeds.

My downloads, uploads, and connections in genral are much faster on 5G. I’m talking 200mbps-400mbps vs 10-20mbps speed difference.

On 4G every action takes longer. On 5G I can reliably stream or download FullHD or higher resolution video for offline viewing. Which is a nuisance on 4G.

This isn’t 2019 anymore dude. 5G is not the big bad wolf and I’ve not heard of anyone complain about it draining battery in half a decade. Idc what sources you pull up, this is absolute nonsense.

I think he’s claiming to be the source of the difference…

It is much faster and more secure. It shouldn’t cause battery drain.

How is it more secure?

5G utilizes more power than 4G.

Here are some random links when searching about the phenomenon :

https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/197006039/using-5g-network-drastically-reduces-battery

https://www.reddit.com/r/LGV60/comments/1asjta8/does_5g_consume_more_battery_and_if_so_how_much/

https://www.samsung.com/us/support/troubleshooting/TSG01201462/

https://www.androidauthority.com/does-5g-use-more-battery-3234940/

5G also does not seem to penetrate well in buildings, causing the phone to constantly be searching for a network under this circumstance.

there goes the entirety of people who are too poor to afford iphones choices…

(I know there are other options, but genuinely, when I’m out and about I hear that Motorola jingle more than the iPhone’s notification or Samsung’s spaceline)

I’m pretty sure a lot of people just don’t want a iPhone.
