Replaced the original one a couple years ago after it started making the slightest of noises. New one has been screaming for months, finally decided to have at it again.
Just had a repair tech replace mine. Hoping it was replaced with a quality part and lasts longer than a couple of years.
Ours started screaming about a month after we moved in. Repair tech wanted something like $700. I mentioned it to a friend and he was aghast. “It’s a $100 part!” I found a match on Grainger for like $120 and installed it in about a half hour. Five years later, nary a peep.
That was about how much they wanted to repair it the first time around, too. Guy advised me to get the whole assembly with the mounting bracket and squirrel cage, because while you can get just the motor, trying to replace only the motor is a huge pain.
Even with this second replacement cost, I’m still $400 in the black.
What’s our take on bearings for these?
Sleeve bearings are quiet for 2 or 3 years, but toast after 5
Ball bearings are a bit louder but last 10 years
I spent $0.12 and replaced the mounting bushings to make mine quiet. Carriers inducer is known to sag and cause the inducer wheel to rub on the housing.

The grommet in the photo. The weight of the motor and vibrations cause the grommet to get weak which allows the motor to drop slightly which causes the blower wheel to rub slightly on the housing.
Does not apply to all models obviously.
So is that just “replace this bushing when it wears out prematurely instead of getting the updated mounting kit”?
