EDIT: Translation - ‘quid’ means £1 … British slang.

Not saying I have the time to host it right now, but there’s a lot of ‘free’ money to be made in referral links to various offers. Most of these offers truly only take about 5 minutes.

Some are a bit more elaborate but still easy - and technically better paying than many of our jobs per hour, I bet. Don’t expect it to cover your rent of course, but an extra 30 quid here and there really racks up. I’ve seen lots of people make an extra 1500 yearly by essentially doing nothing.

Anyway, with these referral links, not only might we all end up a little better off and less stressed, but I think it opens up much more ‘mutual-aid’ ability - I certainly feel more generous when it’s ‘free money’ that I’m giving away.

Currently, I’m using referral links from total randoms on Reddit, meaning half of the referral money is going to some Reddit bloke, when actually it could be going to one of us, or even towards hexbears maintenance fees. If a hexbear admin had a referral link to all of these offers, they could end up with 200 quid in their account from just one post…

I get there’s probably privacy issues with it, but to me it seems like a good idea.

sounds like a great way to associate your credit card (aka IRL identity) to hexbear in several NATO databases.

Lol, yeah, that was the concern.

What the fuck is a quid

Like an octopus with extra legs. Brits use the legs as currency, but cause of how they talk it sounds like quid.

What Brits call one great British pound

Hell yeah I’d like that, and I think that’s especially interesting for us who don’t live in the US, because a few US dollars go a long way in the Global South. One buck becomes six bucks in my case, for instance.

True, although a lot of offers are country specific. On Reddit there’s beermoneyUK, beermoneyUS, India, phillipines, global, etc etc. Still worth looking into, though.

So, is this “Invite your friends to CashApp and get $5” type stuff? I’m a little lost on what exactly the referral links refer too.

Yep, basically yeah, but only the ones where you both get something out of it, otherwise it gets difficult to justify. Then again, it’s an easy way to give someone a fiver (at no cost to yourself) if they’re in need.

But ones for five quid aren’t what I’ve been focusing on. There’s a lot where you can get more than that, especially when it’s in shares/stocks. I got £30 worth of apple stocks the other day, and all I have to do is sit on them for a couple months before I can sell up and take the money out.

There’s also bank account switch offers, that aren’t referral. They pay like 100-200 a lot of the time, and you can just keep switching accounts. If you make a Chase banking account as your burner of sorts, it won’t even be a hassle moving stuff over because you don’t use it anyway. The only concern is credit score, but it doesnt really get affected, the only advice is that if you’re trying to get a mortgage then don’t switch banks for 6 months.

As long as the original intention of “beer money” (eg: side cash through crowdwork is included). I don’t know if a comm entirely filled with referral links would get many visitors.

Take a look at the r/beermoney subreddits. Lots of visitors.

There’s lots of top level posts on there, but the “users online”, as well as upvotes is extremely low, which makes me think that a lot of people are posting into the void. You could be right, but the lack of participation that I’m seeing gives me a bit of pause. Having it be more functional than a link dump might be beneficial.

Nah, those ones are all garbage. r/beermoneyUK at least is strictly moderated so only worthwhile stuff gets through.
