Iā€™m interested in Android itself. The software. Custom ROMs, apps, security and privacy, beta reviews, upcoming features, whatever.
Thatā€™s what the sidebar of this community also says.

However, my timeline is full of

"Rumors say, manufacturer XY might might bring out a new foldable, this time with a higher refresh rate display! šŸ˜³šŸ˜±

or something like that.

I already have a phone. A very new one. I wonā€™t buy one in at least the next 7 years. Especially not a new fancy gimmicky toy like those ones.

Is this on purpose? Do you like what you see?

I think the problem fundamentally stems from the fact that Android development is so hardware focused nowadays because hardware makers make so much money, and people seemed to have started forgetting Android is also an OS, with its own software ecosystem, including the ecosystem of OS mods.

But we have not been seeing nearly as many news about new cool app that explores new ways to redefine functionality and UX design. Thereā€™s just not much exciting things going on in the Android software and itā€™s ecosystem these days it feels like, almost as if itā€™s not just stagneted but also somehow enshitified as a whole :(

Phone news and discussions about android and its ecosystem are the only reason Iā€™m here.

Rumours are also a part of that. But, unless you can quantify true and false rumours. They are a part of news. But, I get what you are saying. You can share news, reviews, new features, etc and upvote those when someone posts them in this community.

I see where you come from. Iā€™m also not that interested in phone news per se. Okay, letā€™s start a thread about custom ROMS.

Edit: just posted it

The comments are the place to be on news posts. So we can discuss those features to decide which ones are stupid and which are worthwhile.

This shouldnā€™t be the only thing here, of course. But some subjects donā€™t evolve as rapidly. News happens every day on every subject. Custom ROMs update every few weeks, and usually arenā€™t important enough updates to care about.

Rumours are a fundamental part of the news cycle, whether it be Android or whatever, because a fair amount of the time they turn out to be facts?
