Same here. Created a account out of curiosity when the API changes got announced. The last two weeks showed insane growth and completely convinced me that Lemmy (and Kbin) will succeed. Probably not as big as reddit but big enough to be alternative.

I made mine the day some mods got locked out of there accounts…and posted about it with a link here lol. Seemed like nothing was getting better “by the end of the month”

@ruud @WhoRoger I started to follow lemmy.world from mastodon pretty much at the same time it was launched when lemmy.ml became overwhelmed with loads of users, happy to be here

Personally I think lemmy.world was key in driving momentum. After realizing a couple days before the protests started that reddit was not going to change, I started looking for real alternatives. When I found lemmy, I thought I had to join the biggest instance to get a shot at seeing enough content, not understanding how the fediverse worked yet. I imagine it was the same for a lot of people. And the bigger userbase lemmy.world got, the more appealing it was for reddit refugees. Once we got here we now know we can branch out to other instances if needed, but lemmy.world’s awesome handling of the user influx absolutely looked appealing to people looking to make the jump, and we shouldn’t discount that. Awesome work to @ruud and all the admins he has brought on the team. We appreciate you all.

I’ve been here for a week and I absolutely love it. Reminds me of Reddit when I joined in 2013.

Hell yeah it does! My engagement is off the hook compared to that other site. I actually enjoy “All” now, finding new communities, and engaging with friendly people.

Just like when I (we?) left Digg for reddit.
