Description from their page:

TUXEDO Computers are customizable Linux notebooks and Desktop PCs optimized in the first place to run with Ubuntu-based Linux operating systems. Literally Linux hardware in a tailor-made suit.

I’ve been wanting to buy a laptop from them for awhile, but I like to assemble my own PCs and honestly don’t need a laptop. At this point I’m just looking for an excuse to support such companies…

Does anyone have experience buying from them? I first time heard of this company on Reddit, but haven’t seen a review of their products on lemmy yet.

The Linux Experiment on Peertube has plenty. I have a computer from them: flawless. 10/10

I bought one from them in 2016. Lasted a good while, but the hardware is (was?) rebranded Clevo laptops. Had to return it once for a screen repair (my own fault) which worked fine and was not very expensive. Overall I would recommend them, but their models are afaik all in the upper price range.

Oh, need to look into the rebrand, thanks for the tip! And yeah noticed their price range is higher up. But glad to hear it was working well

Gotta love Tuxedo Computers. Hardware that has the best compatibility on Linux is the first thing I look out for.

Linus Torvalds our beloved fin graced upon our world the Linux kernel.

I would consider them for a future laptop but how many Linux users aren’t building their own desktops?

I guess their desktop market is towards businesses? No idea. Personally I’m also more interested in their laptops and indeed love building my own desktop as well.

How can you not have the time?

Even if you are not experienced then it takes a maximum of a few hours. It’s not like you build a pc often

The building itself is not the issue but the compatibility checks, the hardware selection…

I spent days on mainboard selection alone -and could spend just as much time on every other part.

Basically a prebuild reduces the time to a sanity check instead of rabbit holeing (is that a word?)

That’s fair. I don’t have the time either but I love building a new custom rig and I trust myself to get it right over pre built PCs. So I make time. Saves a few $ too.

absolutely fair. A better phrasing would be “I’m not willing to spend the time and mental energy” instead of “I don’t have it” to be honest.
