This LPT doesn’t violate the community rule against illegal advice because in this purely hypothetical scenario the law means nothing

Or also on a related note, do not obey in advance. If they want to disallow peaceful protests, make them actually have to do it and don’t just assume they will. Make them have to choose which fights they really want to have. They still changed course on a total funding freeze after enough pushback and after getting blocked in the courts. There is still fight left. Cynicism and dooming is what they want you to have.

Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do.

The blitz of EOs and other unlawful/questionable acts is exactly what was meant by the current administration’s “shock and awe” comment.

lol “hypothetical”

but yea, it’s important to clarify reality: the law means nothing to fascists. those same laws still apply to you.

TBF, I think we’ll still have elections next time. Even Russia still technically has elections.

Note, I’m not making any arguments about how legitimate those elections are going to be…

legitimacy can be seen as a scale. In the last 19 years the US has never been the most legitimate democracy but i dont think it could have been considered “undemocratic” or autocratic since the end of the civil rights movement either.

Protest voters did not meaningfully effect the results.

The demographics that voted for biden but not for harris were older white men/women and hispanic men. Probably because of those groups having internalized patriarchal views and machismo culture.

Democrats have failed you. They’re just the sugarcoated version of republicans.

They’re just the sugar-coated version of republicans, aside from all the ways that they’re better than the Republicans

But they happen to slightly align on one issue regarding a conflict on the other side of the world, so I guess they really are the same after all

This is what happens when one party gets complete control of government

When one particular party does, yes. The last time the Democrats had this much control they passed the civil rights act.

The last time the Democrats had this much control

It was 2021…

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Party_divisions_of_United_States_Congresses

But they choose to “look into” things till that inaction gave Republicans control of the House, and they stopped pretending to even look into things.

.it’s the danger of the only option to fascism being “maintain status quo and profits”.

Democrats didn’t have control/majority over the Supreme Court, so there was at least check on power. No such checks on power exist for the GOP right now.

Not accurate. In 2021 the Supreme Court was split 6-3 in Republican favor.

Also, the Senate was super split with 50 Republicans, 48 Democrats, and 2 Independent Senators (who, although they caucused with the Democrats, wouldn’t necessarily vote in lockstep) – and two of the Democrats (Manchin and Sinema) seemed more interested in obstructing things than in the party’s agenda.

You’d have a better argument if you’d brought up the ACA, IMO. The numbers in Congress favored the Dems more in 2009-2011.

When they want to do things.

Four years ago the other party had the same, but they didn’t want to do anything.

Which depressed turnout, and allowed this to happen.

As noted elsewhere in the thread, this is blatantly untrue.
