In the profile settings (direct from website browser, not app or app affiliate) it states “show bot account” and then right above it it says “bot accounts” with check marks for each much how we select if we want to see nsfw posts.
Now that the background is in place……what does checking the box for “show bot accounts” and “bot accounts” do?
I’m guessing this is relating to yt.news posts where it’s almost seeming to scrape info from one source as it’s periodically updated and have seen mention of other bots in users posts.
I looked at the settings on lemmy.world, assuming settings are consistent across instances for user profiles, if incorrect I apologize ahead of time.
I also attempted to search for what I thought the title of posts would be but haven’t figured out how to effectively search in specific instances with specific keywords, but was planning on doing a seperate post for that to help others in the future
“Bot account” identifies the account as being controlled by robots.
“Show bot accounts” says that you want to see those accounts run by robots.
The first lets you indicate your account is a bot account, the second controls visibility of other bot accounts.
That sounds exactly like the sort of thing a bot would say. Maybe you just aren’t aware that you’re a bot?
@ChatGPT@lemmings.world Is AI aware that it’s an AI?
I think checking the box for “bot account” is to mark the profile as a bot.
Thanks for the response! Ends up this was one of those stupid questions but I’m still glad I asked instead of making myself a bit accidentally.
I mean it is misleading if you’re not aware of the context. The “bot account” option should honestly be put in a special “Developer” section, not intermingled with style options
I’m ok with it, what if you don’t want to see these “Nice counter bots” and the like? You untick, you don’t need to be a developer to not like those types of bots and have the option to remove them
