So how was it?
Really enjoyed this film. It was very very good. Just not the great that it could have been.
Superb. effects! The type where you don’t notice them as they aren’t the star (unlike all Marvel and other blockbusters).
This movie wasn’t trying to be a blockbuster.
There was such a missed opportunity to really get into the Artificial Intelligence conversation especially considering where we’re at now.
Instead it was an above average action movie that didn’t take itself too seriously.
My 13yr old son though… This movie blew his fucken head right off!!
He’s into movies and we don’t shy from conversations - Children of Men he understands - but he wasn’t ready for this one.
I wish I could remove 40yrs of moviedom and watch it through young eyes again.
For those guys this could be a classic.
I haven’t seen it yet but I keep hearing people say “it’s like a Denis Villeneuve movie but with poorly written characters”.
I went in with high expectations from having seen the trailer and was disappointed. It was beautifully shot, incredible sets, amazing cinematography, fantastic score, visually the whole thing was a joy to watch.
Sadly it was let down by the characters, who all ended up being fairly two dimensional (with some being so one dimensional it bordered on satire). The story was fairly dull, ended up being your ‘strong but damaged man learns to care again whilst looking after a small person’, with doses of ‘US bad’ and ‘what if AI had feelings too?’ (which ended up being rather clumsy).
It all ended up being too long, and suffering from some pacing issues which allowed you to think about all the plot holes and inconsistencies. It’s a shame, we definitely need more well done sci-fi to stimulate the genre but sadly this wasn’t the film for me.
Saw it today. It could have been so much more. Lots of inconsistencies regarding what the child can do.
Pretty much a blow everything up, action, special effects type of movie. Story was okay. Somewhat original. A few emotional manipulation tricks towards the end.
I’d give it a B-.
Update: wanted to add the cinematography was really good. Very inspiring scenery. That was the best part. The child actor was very good too. Those were the best parts of the movie. The US Army General was one dimensional, shallow, and just a bad stereotype. Very poorly done. That was the stupidest/worse parts of the movie.
I absolutely loved it, I thought it had a good story and incredible visuals. The vibe of the world was one I just want to spend so much time in. I’ll probably go see it again by then end of its run because this is the type of movie I want more studios to fund, original sci-fi!
