Summary

A CBS News/YouGov poll found that 52% of Americans support Ukraine, while 44% remain neutral and only 4% back Russia.

Among Republicans, 37% support Ukraine, but 56% are neutral. The poll also showed that 51% approve of Trump’s handling of the war, while 49% disapprove.

A separate poll found 62% viewed Zelenskyy’s remarks as offensive, and 55% believe Ukraine should negotiate peace.

Despite concerns over U.S. foreign policy shifts, 78% of respondents support remaining in NATO, and 67% favor cooperating equally with allies.

Republican sheep will toss their support behind Trump on any issue, so the numbers don’t reflect a well-informed public.

Has there ever been a well-informed public?

While media sources have always had agendas, I think the key difference now is the fact that people are relying more than ever on a oligopoly of social media platforms as their primary news source, rather than media outlets across the country.

Not only does an information oligopoly make it far easier for propaganda to be disseminated to national and international audiences, but it makes trading political favors for propaganda-backed political support far easier than ever before as well.

Propaganda works, people.

I keep seeing non-Americans proudly proclaim their country’s support as far right parties gain ground everywhere… Look at us. This will happen to you, and y’all need to be ready.

I dont think anyone is. But maybe after America’s fall, they’ll think twice before continuing to cozy to oligarchs.

Push polling works. That separate poll asked leading questions and misrepresent both sides. The survey question says Zelenskyy’s position is that there can be no compromise, negotiation or diplomacy. They make no mention of security guarantees, or of Russia’s past history of violating agreements. Trump and Vance want peace, and apparently Zelenskyy just wants the war to go on until he’s conquered his way to the pacific.

They also give false dichotomies between negotiating for an immediate ceasefire and fighting until victory. And another question asked if Ukraine should refuse to compromise or if both sides would need to make concessions, and they presented the both sides making concessions result as proof that Americans though Ukraine should give up territory.

It’s all bullshit. I’m sure the portion of the population that bought Trump and Vance’s feigned outrage is disturbingly high, but these assclowns are trying very hard to inflate those numbers.

My point exactly! Everything is just set up to misrepresent Ukraine now, and the line will keep moving because Trump keeps crossing it.

Zelenskyy just wants the war to go on

Typical right wing disinformation filling the social media comment sections right now. It’s so mind-melting you literally need to not be paying attention to get it this wrong.

YouGov is definitely crap compared to actual research, but their hacks are mostly paid for speed over quality so it should be assumed. Later on, Pew Research or something tends to tell a better picture, although they aren’t perfect either.

The isolationism Ron Paul tapped into when he brought the libertarian party to prominence hasn’t gone anywhere. To many right of center Americans, we can’t afford to feed, house and clothe the poor not because we don’t adequately tax the wealthy, it’s because we give too much money to other countries (and other people they don’t like).

I doubt it matters what we think anymore. It barely did before, but I can’t see any light at the end of this American Experiment tunnel.
