Summary
The Intercept has uncovered Elon Musk’s government email address, erm71@who.eop.gov, and filed FOIA requests to access his correspondence as head of DOGE.
DOGE has rapidly cut federal staffing and spending but tries to claim exemption from FOIA due to its White House affiliation.
Watchdog groups argue DOGE wields agency-level power and are suing for transparency. Government responses on Musk’s role have been contradictory, fueling legal battles.
Pending lawsuits aim to classify DOGE as a FOIA-subject agency and force document disclosures.
Hahahaha, his Official Government Email is his initials and year of birth.
I wonder if his password is “TESLA S3XY”
Hahahaha, his Official Government Email is his initials and year of birth.
I mean that’s not that crazy. Most government emails I’ve dealt with are like lastnamefirstname or something similar. Birth year is a new one.
Would be a shame if that address was inundated with everything the world has to offer.
A bad idea, then the email will become defunct, it’s better when we know it.
Bold of you to assume internet users have been waiting on a consensus about this before you posted this fair reasoning.
He is probably using another already.
On one hand I’m glad someone is still playing by the rules.
On the other hand I suspect that their FoI requests will be ignored.
I’m surprised his email account username is that banal. I’d have thought it would be something fucking stupid like “sigmaleetbro420”.
Someone posted the names and email address of every single DOGE employee on Bluesky. I have a copy but am not sure using it for anything at all beyond my own curiosity is probably illegal, including posting it anywhere. I think what they are doing to the US is awful but in years to come, when sanity returns, there will be a reckoning.
It’s not illegal to email a government employee and tell them to knock that shit off
In principle yeah, but we are currently speed running the dystopian surveillance state so much early sci-fi warned us about.
Just FYI, 1984 was hardly about surveillance, though that’s the only thing people hear about (I assume on purpose). It’s more about how the government uses propaganda to ensure compliance and that they’re never questioned. It changes the meaning of language, manufactures enemies, and turns people against each other so you can’t trust anyone and organize. This is much more relevant to today too.
