The Evil Dead (1981)
I snuck watched it without my dad knowing. I remember it had me creeped out for weeks, still one of my favourites to revisit though.
How about your guys? How old werw you when you started watching?
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre when I was 8. Not a good idea for an 8yo.
Not bad. The one that gave me nightmares was Pet Semetery. And not even the evil super natural shit, but the flashback scene where the mom remembers her sick sister in bed.
Zombie kids and cats aren’t real. But getting sick is. My mom used to let me know that Wizard of Oz scared me as a kid, too. But not the flying monkies or the witch; I was afraid of the tornado.
I can’t really remember. It might have been The Frighteners, which is still a really fun movie.
As a dinosaur loving kid, Jurassic Park gave me nightmares.
I’d say the 1st “horror” movie I watched was probably It on TV in 1990. Still don’t like clowns.
I think it was the Thriller music video, but I was pretty young and thought it was a full movie. It played before the main feature at a drive in movie.
After that I think it was The Fly. The arm wrestling scene still scares me.
My wife told me a story about how Tremors was her first horror movie. Her dad actually woke her up to watch it and said “you’ve got to see this!” because he thought the movie was so awesome. Scared the hell out of her.
Probably doesn’t count as horror for most, but when I was 6 or 7, my step-dad let me watch Terminator 1.
That shit traumatized me for years… the stop-motion scenes, Arnie cutting out his eye…
