This is Atlantic Superstore - which I try to avoid because they’ve seriously raised their prices due to corporate greed.

I do think this is cool but it’s probably to ward off complaints of why the thing is now more than 25% more expensive. It will be interesting to see if they use this as an excuse to jack up other prices for items not under a tariff.

It’s Superstore, so I expect yes.

I wouldn’t trust their Canadian labeling. I’ve already personally seen irregularities, and this is an industry where distributors pay for priority placement and treatment.

Check the packaging specifically for a ‘Made in Canada’ claim.

I also like the idea of replacing in reverse or upside down the products of USA.

This narrative is clearly designed to deflect blame for price hikes onto the Canadian government, much like how Tim Hortons and restaurants point fingers at provincial governments whenever minimum wage goes up.

Yes, the Canadian government implemented retaliatory tariffs, but let’s not forget that Loblaws consciously chose to stick with those specific suppliers. They have the power to decide what products line their shelves. As consumers, we should actively support stores that have made the effort to switch to non-American suppliers. It’s disingenuous to suggest that there are no alternative countries exporting similar goods like canned soup, deli meat, and fruit juice. They made a conscious choice to buy American - let those clowns watch their inventory rot.

I really don’t want to give Loblaws the benefit of the doubt because they absolutely have not earned it.

But also, there’s a solid logic in telling people which items are affected and to explain why the prices went up. I want to know what items went up so I can avoid them — I try to check labels but having this is helpful not harmful.

I’m not going to pretend that Loblaws is doing this to help me, but I’m not going to fight it either.

This is what they want to do. They’ll put the tariff sticker on goods that are technically tariff-ed, but don’t even come from the US. They’ll stick that tariff sticker next to orange juice from Mexico (a country that isn’t tariffed).

Fuck loblaws. Eat the westons. If your city has a co-op get a membership so at least you can partake in the profits.

Unfortunately it can be hard to find alternatives in the rural pockets of the Maritimes.

We’re lucky we have lots of locally grown produce where I live, but for many its their only option. That or Sobeys which is only marginally more ethical.

Yeah I can’t judge people for using more convenient and/or cheaper options. I’m lucky i live where it is a competitively priced and available option.
