The SQL way
https://lemmyverse.link/lemmy.ca/post/40761824, thank you to @shadow@lemmy.ca! Note this does not work with regex patterns.
The slur filter way
(.*(\n)*Hi.*[nN]icole.*[fF]ediverse [cC]hick(.|\n)*)
Is what we are using on dbzer0 right now. It previews all of nicole’s messages as just “removed”.
Why such hacky fixes? Well truth is, due to lemmy’s subpar filtering we really can’t do much about this currently. At most these just repel from the potential harm of nicole’s messages.
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com has opened these two issues:
Greedy regex always makes me uneasy. Yeah, it’s super unlikely that that combination would appear otherwise, but it could if a couple of people were talking about the topic.
Regex probably isn’t the best use case here, as the spammer can pretty easily change the format. They’re already trying to do so with random spaces and stuff.
A better option would be to have the option to disable DMs from instances that do not require email/sign on approval requirements. Not sure if that’s already a feature, but I can’t imagine it would be a fun one to implement.
Are you trying to keep me and my girlfriend apart?
Fuck you, she’s mine. In fact, i snuck in to these solutions an exception for my account. So i can keep her DMs all to myself!
Freedom of speech violation
Too bad; lemmy.dbzer0.com has been couped, we are no longer a freezepeach instance, we are now an autocratic instance that bans the word removed
It’s even influenced calculators. Anytime you type “divide by zero” in a calculator, it gets censored, showing “ERROR” instead of the truth. It’s getting out of hand.
My hostile takeover of all lemmy instances is inevitable; feddit.org is next >:)
Fun fact: You can see how dirty those “Free Speech” billionaires like Musk and Zuckerberg are playing you just by looking at how many free speech of small businesses selling you viagra via personal message they are blocking. A free speech absolutionist wouldn’t block a business proposal
If that’s a freedom of speech violation, then so is your email provider’s spam filter.
